Christmas Cake 2019 'Home for Christmas'

Christmas Cake 2019

So for those that don't know this. Every year for Christmas I try and come up with a unique designed cake for our family which is always the centre piece of the dinner table. I've done it ever since I started baking but sharing the whole cake decorating process..well that began a few years ago.

My inspirations come from everywhere. This time it was a Christmas card sent in last year by family. Unfortunately I misplaced it. So I just roughed up my own design and came up with this. The full tutorial is on my YouTube.

The design I sketched...I'm terrible at drawing

I've put out a template on Pinterest (link below) for the shape I used to carve the cake. And since this one being a fruit cake this time it wasn't easy at all when it came to the carving. I would suggest chilling the cake for at least half an hour. https://pin.it/gt66gukqb3s372 You will notice the change of colour of the brick wall background in the video. I wasn't entirely happy with the brown as it didn't sort of go along with the porch. So I decided to change it later on. The pillars, I bought them from a local cake decorating store. They're the same ones used on wedding cakes etc. But it would still look lovely without them. I've used glue and Royal icing to attach things as I went along. The trees could be also made from RKT but I wanted to get this cake done sooner so I just used left over green fondant that I had and piped dark green leaves from Royal icing. I misplaced my wilton 352 leaf nozzle (perfect timing) so I cut a 'V' in a piping bag and it worked out fine. The smaller leaf nozzle I've used is PME no.50 I have posted another video to show how I made the lanterns and the red bows. The link is below. https://youtu.be/3FpKjh-MPfs I used a Glaze spray for a shinier effect but its really optional. The blue dust was to shade in the snow but it was hardly visible on the camera.
